Something for Everyone on Our Poke Bowl Menu

A Poke Bowl Menu For Everyone

Having a hard time finding a restaurant that will make the whole family happy? Our poke bowl menu at Pola Poke Bowl has something for everyone. Even the pickiest member of your family is sure to find something they will enjoy.

After all, different family members have different dietary needs. Others, like young children, may not have developed pallets. They might be pickier and only like certain foods. You may know this quite well. Perhaps one member of the family enjoys a plant-based vegan diet. Another subscribes to a low-carb, high-protein diet. Perhaps someone is gluten intolerant, or eating to support an underlying health condition such as IBS or diabetes. At Pola Poke Bowl we are proud to offer the highest quality ingredients that are both fresh and healthy.

What is a Poke Bowl?

Poke is a national dish of Hawaii and was invented by fishermen who would season cut-offs from their daily catch and eat them cold. Poke is named for the type of food prep employed, as poke means “to slice or cut” in Hawaiian. Typically standard poke is comprised of fresh raw fish with some light seasoning; possibly soy sauce, purple onions, and sesame seeds. However, a poke bowl is more extensive. A much more complete meal. They combine whole grains such as rice with cubed raw fish and pickled vegetables.

Our poke bowls stay true to their original Hawaiian roots, but we offer some innovative twists on our recipes too. And just because we offer poke bowls doesn’t mean that’s all we’ve got. After all, we’re here to please. And we know not everyone loves to eat fish… or raw fish at that. That’s why we offer a variety of choices on the Pola Poke Bowl menu. Things like chicken, cooked shrimp, vegetarian bowls, smoothies, acai bowls, and so much more! So, can Pola Poke’s menu offer something for everyone? We sure think so! Let’s find out why below.

Various Health & Eating Habits

Ok, so we said we have something for everyone here at Pola Poke, and we really do mean that. But that’s easier said than done. There are a variety of diets, eating habits, preferred tastes, lifestyles, and age ranges we have to account for when making such a claim. But for the most part, we think we’ve got you covered. Below, we’ll discuss a variety of health habits, eating habits, dietary restrictions & trends. Finally, we’ll show you exactly what the Pola Poke Bowl menu has in store for you and your family.

Family Dining Options Aplenty

So you’ve got a family, right? Most of us do to some extent. However, let’s go crazy and say you’ve got a big family and you want to try out Pola Poke for the first time. Is there really something here for everyone? Can you really feed the whole family at a poke restaurant? We’re pretty confident you can. So again, let’s say you have a typical nuclear family. Mom, dad, and 2 1/2 kids. Actually, let’s just round that up to three kids. I’m not sure we have anything available for someone who might be missing the entire left side of their body. Plus the mess it would leave on the floor. EWW!

Anyhow, for this example, we’re going to assume mom and dad both love poke already. They’ve tried all-you-can-eat sushi. They’ve been all over to the various sushi bars in Reno. And now, they’re ready to give poke a try. With someone who’s already a raw fish fan (ME!!!), this is a no-brainer. Our poke bowl menu offers a vast selection of ingredients including ahi spicy tuna, salmon, shrimp, real deep-sea crab, and even octopus. You know you love it! As long as you’re a fan of fish, veggies, fruit, and flavor, you’ve come to the right place. But what about the kids?

Teenagers

Let’s say kid number one is actually not a kid, but a teen. Most teens have a mature palate. However, I know I personally HATED onions until I began working at Subway when I was 18. Being around all the purple onions constantly allowed me to get used to the smell and suddenly, I gave them a try. And they were fine! Now I add extra onions to everything I get. And yes that includes my poke bowls. But if we flashback to the age of say, 16, well I simply would have said no to onions. And now trying to think back to that age, really I was not a big fan of veggies. I didn’t really mind them but I wasn’t a vegetable junkie by any means.

So thinking about how I was when I was a teenager, I’d say that all the raw fish and seafood we offer would be a 100% yes for me. Probably all the sauces as well. I would have just skipped out on the onions. Then we come to the base of the poke bowl. Now, most people are fine with rice but some prefer a certain type. I was raised on brown rice so that would have been a fine choice for me.

However, let’s say I wasn’t a big fan of kale… because I probably wouldn’t have been at that age. Now, that’s what I get as my base every time I build my bowl. But, Pola Poke has the option of adding mixed greens to the base of your poke bowl. And as most people are pretty cool with salad these days, it’s safe to say a teen would probably be down to fill their bowl with mixed greens.

Finally, we come to the topping area, and considering I’ve been a sushi lover from a very young age, there probably isn’t much here that I’d turn down. I know that when I was a teen, I loved wasabi but never age the ginger. But I loved tobiko and spicy crab. Wasn’t a fan of tofu or soybeans, just because I didn’t really eat them much. The same goes for seaweed salad. Now I stack my whole bowl with both, especially the delicious seaweed salad…mmm. My point is that there are so many options to top your bowl that anyone with a mildly-developed palate will have plenty to choose from.

Oh and don’t forget about fruit smoothies and acai bowls. As a teen, I know I would have loved every single smoothie on the Pola Poke Bowl menu. And if you love the smoothies, you’d love the acai bowls as well. Basically, if you’re a teen and you love fresh fruit and healthy ingredients. This is a slam dunk no-brainer. Especially if you’re watching your calorie intake and you’re trying to stay fit. Fish, veggies, fruits, nuts… you can’t go wrong!

Kids

Now we come to the real kids. Let’s say you have a ten-year-old and a four-year-old. Those are two very different times in life and some kids are much pickier than others. A child about the age of ten has been exposed to a large number of different foods by this time in his or her life. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they like everything. They may not like raw fish but maybe they’re ok with cooked fish. No problem!

They can get a bowl with cooked shrimp or chicken. They may not like brown rice so maybe they want white. And maybe they don’t care for salad greens at all so they just stick with the white rice as their base. No problem! If they don’t like most veggies, they can just stick with a sauce and add some cucumbers, pineapple, and avocado. The “keiki” build-your-own poke bowl is a perfect choice for someone their age.

Now we come to the younger child. My niece is currently a little over three years old. And she’ll eat all sorts of stuff. She loves her fruits and veggies for sure. Definitely not the stereotypical “BROCCOLI IS GROSS” kind of girl. But maybe she’s still an outlier. Either way, let’s say you’re dealing with a little one who is super ultra mega picky. But they like chicken and carrots and white rice and imitation crab. Perfect! We’re always happy to accommodate children. And for a dinner of this size, depending on how young and how hungry they are they may be able to share a bowl or save some for later. So you see, even the pickiest eaters can find something for them on our poke bowl menu!

Diets and Dietary Restrictions

Now some people aren’t necessarily picky. They’re on a diet. They may like every food on the menu but they’re trying to eat a certain type of food. Possibly a protein-rich diet. Possibly they’re vegetarian or vegan and they simply can’t have any of our delicious fish. Might be a pescatarian. Maybe you’re a very health-conscious dinner and you want to avoid empty calories, carbs, and sugar-laden sauces. You could be practicing intermittent fasting. Could be on the Keto diet. What about a diabetic? What could they have from the Pola Poke Bowl menu? Luckily, there are great options for everyone on the Pola Poke Bowl menu!

Vegetarians

Vegetarians don’t eat animal meat. They focus mainly on fruits, veggies, and grains. So you might be asking yourself, why a vegetarian might eat at a poke restaurant. After all, we serve fish, right? That’s like, the whole point of poke, right? Never fear, because Pola Poke Bowls in Reno offers a wide selection of choices for our vegetarian friends.

Now, it’s important to note that while vegetarians can’t enjoy the chicken and fish that we offer, we can still build delicious veggie bowls for them. How about white rice, salad greens, seaweed salad, tofu, edamame, ginger, and avocado topped with nori flakes and macadamia nuts? Sounds good? There’s more. Corn, carrots, beets, jalapenos… you get the idea. The choices are plentiful and there are plenty of sauces to choose from to really brighten up your bowl. Plus, veggie bowls are less expensive than our standard poke bowls. So if you’re vegetarian, you can save some cash while eating like the king or queen that you are!

Vegans

At Pola Poke, we also cater to vegans. In fact, many vegans dine here regularly because we have such a huge selection of fresh fruits and veggies. Most of the same things we offer for our vegetarian friends can be enjoyed by vegans as well. Vegan bowl options include kale, salad greens, carrots, corn, cucumber, green onions, purple onions, tofu, seaweed salad, edamame, beets, ginger, and avocado, just to name a few. Oh, avocado… drool…

However, there’s more than poke bowls here! We also offer an array of fresh fruit smoothies and stunningly delicious acai bowls. And let me tell you, there’s nothing better on a hot summer day than a cool, creamy acai bowl topped with fresh fruits and granola. Acai, goji berries, bananas, blueberries, strawberries, hemp seed, cocoa nibs, almond butter, cashews… need I continue? YES! Dragon fruit, blackberries, pineapple, ancient grains, and more. HOLY MOLY!

Additionally, one of the best parts of our acai bowls and smoothies is the option to have almond milk, coconut milk, and other dairy-free options. And while some of our poke bowls do have honey or bee pollen included, you can always ask to remove them or sub them out for agave syrup. And speaking of drinks, we offer a delicious selection of teas and coffee, all of which can be made in a vegan-friendly manner.

Pescatarians

Being a pescatarian at Pola Poke bowl is basically a dream come true. You’re a kid in a candy store and the world is your oyster. Pescatarians are basically a step in between vegetarians and red meat eaters. The pescatarian diet is similar to vegetarians in almost every way. The only difference? You get to eat fish! SWEET! In other words, pescatarians are allowed to eat fish as a source of protein. Of course many also eat eggs and drink milk. Basically they’re just avoiding land animals. No pork, lamb, steak, chicken, turkey, etc. Only seafood.

So it should go without saying that anyone on a pescatarian diet can go crazy here at Pola Poke Bowls. There are a nearly endless amount of options for a pescatarian on our Pola Poke Bowl menu. Really, the only thing that you can’t have here is the chicken. And let’s be honest. If you’re here for the poke, then you’re here for the fish. If you’re a pescatarian and you live in the Reno, NV area, then Pola Poke is the place to be. No bones about it.

Diabetics

Being a diabetic has got to be tough. And there are more people diagnosed with diabetes all the time. Both type one and type two which has skyrocketed as the obesity epidemic expends across the world. Additionally, uncontrolled diabetes results in a number of serious consequences, including heart disease and kidney disease. You can even go blind, lose limbs, and more. Yikes! That’s why it’s so important that you keep your diabetes in check and make sure to eat and drink only the best things for your body.

Lucky for diabetic diners, Pola Poke offers a number of amazing choices to keep your body operating properly. Now for diabetics, carbs are something that needs to be kept in check. Starches and sugars should be limited because maintaining a low-carb intake prevents blood sugar spikes. As a result, you greatly reduce the risk of diabetic complications and maintain homeostasis. Diabetics should avoid trans fats so poke is the perfect choice. Our fish is quite lean and rich in protein and minerals. Plus it’s filling and delicious. Additionally, we have a large assortment of veggies you can add to your poke bowls. Our tip? Load that bowl with beets and kale as well. Colorful veggies are your friend.

To help you accomplish your goals, we recommend that diabetics avoid any sweet sauce options on their poke bowls. Rice might not be a good choice either, but I never get rice with my bowls so that doesn’t sound so bad to me. Just add more veggies or more fish! Or, if you must, go with brown rice. Keep corn consumption on the low side. Also, adding fruits like pineapple and mango might not be a wise choice for you. You should also avoid our seaweed salad. While extremely delicious, it is rich in fiber and sweetened with teriyaki sauce. Sadly, our acai bowls and fresh fruit smoothies may not be a good fit for a diabetic.

Gluten Intolerance

Gluten is one of the main proteins in certain grains common in the American diet. Wheat, barley, and rye all have gluten. Those with gluten intolerances suffer from different symptoms depending on the severity. Some may even be diagnosed with Celiac Disease. This can cause bloating, discomfort, and more. Over time, it can actually damage your organs. And we don’t want you to feel bad or get sick, so it’s best to stick to what’s best for your body.

This means that foods like bread, pasta, cereal, crackers, baked goods, and beer, are on the naughty list. However, that’s no big deal when you’re eating at Pola Poke! Try to go to another restaurant and avoid common carbs like breads and pastas. Panera? Nope. Olive Garden? Not happening. Little Ceasar’s? Ok, now you’ve lost it! But seriously poke is great for you because we serve rice, greens, fish, and a wide array of toppings like corn and edamame which are perfect for you.

Also, if you do have gluten intolerance and want to make sure you’re making smart choices, just let your server know. We’re always happy to accommodate and we have a full ingredient list of all of our sauces on hand. Our only suggestion here is to avoid soy sauce and imitation crab which is frequently made with added starches.

Protein Lovers

Protein peeps stand up! If you’re on a protein-focused diet or a carb-restrictive diet, or you just love lean proteins, poke bowls are an absolute must! Piled with fresh fish and veggies, poke bowls are high in protein and healthy fats. If you’re looking to keep it lean and mean, avoid fatty sauces and stick with the lighter options. Meanwhile, stock up on tune, salmon, crab, shrimp, tobiko, and a nearly endless array of fruit and veggies to top it off with.

And a word to the wise, if you’re a protein fiend like I am, get a large bowl and order extra scoops of your favorite fish. I usually do and I’m telling you, this is the way to go. 6 scoops of spicy tuna and salmon with a selection of our delicious veggies. Topped with a big stack of ginger and macadamia nuts. If you’re looking to stuff yourself with protein but want to keep the calories and carbs on the lower end, fish is the way to go.

Plus, poke is an amazing choice for anyone who’s fasting. If you’re in your eating window and you want something that promises to sustain and satisfy, make the smart choice and get some poke in your tummy. Having a nutritious, nutrient-rich meal like a poke bowl can keep a trained faster satisfied for an entire day. And if you’re still operating in a larger eating window, a large bowl can last for two meals during your eight-hour eating window.

What’s the Best Option For Me on the Pola Poke Bowl Menu?

So, now that you’ve seen just how many eating regimens and palettes we can appeal to, what’s there to order. Like, specifically. Well, these are some of our delicious poke bowls and other options we offer. And if we’ve described you or your family at all in the following sections, you’ll find some delicious options below.

Superfood Bowl

Our Superfood Bowl begins with a base of kale and brown rice. It features salmon in a sesame shoyu sauce, fresh cucumber, sesame seeds, scallions, red onion, avocado, edamame, pickled ginger, and topped with seaweed salad and crunchy toppings like furikake (a condiment that combines seaweed, fish flakes, and nori) and dried seaweed.

This bowl is rich in proteins and healthy fats and is full of lots of great trace minerals as well. Kale is a nutritional powerhouse. It’s rich in folate, lutein, and minerals such as phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and zinc. Omega 3 rich salmon offers many health benefits for both the brain and heart. This is a great bowl for anyone who is gluten-free or eating to support an active lifestyle. Holding off on the shoyu sauce and seaweed salad makes this a great option for diabetics as well.

Otherside Bowl

Our Otherside Bowl is a great choice for that person who isn’t really crazy about fish. We start with a base of white rice before adding some chicken. You have a choice of either chili-garlic or teriyaki sauce, depending on your desired spice level. This bowl also packs plenty of fresh fruits and veggies including cucumber, scallions, sesame seeds, red onion, mango, corn, jalapeno, carrot, avocado, and edamame. The final topping of crunchy dried coconut flakes and crispy onion adds a delightful crunch.

This is a great bowl for teriyaki lovers and those who love a juxtaposition of sweet and spicy flavors. Chicken is a great lean protein to include in a healthy diet, and the abundance of veggies and fruits boost this meal with plenty of vitamins A and C, fiber, healthy fats, and trace minerals. This is also a fantastic choice for young children who may have underdeveloped palates but who still want to be adventurous and try something new.

Vacation Bowl

The Vacation Bowl starts with a base of mixed greens and white rice. You get tuna and salmon for your protein. Two scoops for a small and three for a large poke bowl. You have an option of choosing either togarashi (A Japanese blend of spices that combines chili, dried seaweed, and citrus) or a delectable pineapple ponzu sauce. With fresh cucumber, scallion, and red onion, plus fresh pineapple this delicious bowl is packed with fresh flavors. The addition of seaweed salad, edamame, spicy crab, avocado, furikake, coconut, and macadamia add a nice complexity of flavors and textures to this dish.

This is my favorite bowl, but frequently, I’m on a protein-rich diet and I try to avoid carbs. Once in a blue moon, I’ll get this bowl just as is. And my girlfriend, her mom, and my mom all choose this bowl every time I offer to bring some home. For me though, I’ll usually hold the fruits, sweet sauces, and coconut. I’ll also add tobiko and lots of ginger to my bowl. This is a great option for pescatarians and for anyone who is fasting but within their dining window. You can pack yourself full of heart-healthy proteins, veggies, and fruits and really get the satisfaction you need to keep your body performing throughout the day.

Aloha Bowl

The Aloha Bowl is designed for the adventurous eater. Built on a base of white rice, you have a choice of tuna and octopus for your protein. Tossed in a flavorful sesame shoyu sauce with fresh cucumber, scallion, red onion, pineapple, bell pepper, seaweed salad, and masago (fish eggs), plus crunchy toppings like dried seaweed and crispy onion. This a great choice for someone who enjoys unique umami flavors and enjoys strong flavors. Not for picky eaters.

Love That Beet Bowl

For our vegetarian and vegan friends, we offer the Love That Beet Bowl. It starts with a base of mixed greens and is topped with beets and avocado in a light Japanese dressing. Then, we add wasabi sesame seeds and crunchy garlic. Beets are another great source of folate and heart-protective potassium. And feel free to go crazy with other veggies and fruits while you’re at it. Pile on the cucumbers, onions, tofu, edamame, ginger, pineapple, and mangos. You can literally go nuts… by adding macadamias on top! Whether you’re vegan or not, this bowl is light and fresh, sure to leave you feeling glowing and energized.

Build Your Own Bowl

You are also able to build your own bowls, combining the grains, vegetables, proteins, dressings, and toppings that you most enjoy. This is a great way to accomodate those with food sensitivities or those with very particular dietary preferences. Build your own bowls are also a great way for even the pickiest eater in your family to find a meal that they will enjoy. This is the go-to option if you need to make special requests or if you’re just feeling creative.

Acai Bowls & Smoothies

In addition to our poke bowls, we also have Acai bowls and smoothies. Acai is a deep purple berry that is indigenous to the Brazilian rainforest. Acai has many benefits and is rich in essential fatty acids omega 6 and omega 9. Our acai bowls combine acai with other healing and energizing superfood to make a plant-based breakfast that is nutrient-dense, and largely vegan (with the exception of honey or bee pollen, which are optional).

Our acai bowls begin with a smoothie base of acai, fresh fruit, ripe banana, non-dairy milk, and sometimes nut butter, finished off with delicious toppings such as nuts, seeds, granola, and fresh fruit. As I mentioned above if you skip the bee pollen and honey (and sub in agave), you’ve got the perfect vegan delight. And vegetarians… this is a free-for-all with your name on it! Enjoy this assortment of incredibly delicious fun-filled fruit treats.

Tasty Drinks

At Pola Poke, we’re also proud to serve Star Village Coffee, a Native American owned and family-operated coffee company based in the great basin.
